Earth Day Roanoke is a grassroots festival organized by volunteers like you, along with groups from the Blue Ridge Environmental Network (BREN) since 1990. The number of environmental and community groups who have participated in Earth Day have ranged from 20 - 75 groups each year. Individuals and organizations share their wonderful projects , and we educate ourselves and our children to respect and preserve the earth and her resources. Hello Laura, Thank you for leaving a comment. Regina Desper set up a Friends Booth and fun display with her home Depot connection last year. I believe they made bird houses with kids. Any kind of display is great. I love the ones that Friends have done during tree plantings with the Watershed demos and other tree information. It would be great for people to see a map of the Parkway and maybe places where you’ve planted trees or other interesting sites. There’s plenty of time to think of a Booth. People like to bring 10 x 10 pop up tents to shade sun and use to hang up displays and things. Then if you need more space to spread out for a children’s activity, we can plan ahead for more room. Our volunteer coordinator for Children’s activities is Karen Cook. She will be looking to get in touch soon, and continue the conversation. She will send a registration form in Feb./ March. Earth Day is Everyday, but especially on Saturday, April 23, 2011, 11 – 3 PM (plus set up time). Please add to your upcoming events and calendar listing. You could begin to ask for volunteers for your booth. It really is a fun day and we will be located in the block of Grandin Road in front of, and aroud the Natural Foods Co-op and up to Too Many Books, and maybe further up the road too.
